The Great Western Drive, Didcot Residents' Group began in 2004 and became a formal group in 2008) in order to promote a stronger community spirit, to help improve the local environment and to look for solutions to several contentious issues. Soha officers, local Councillors and Police officers are invited to attend meetings. The group has started up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme and is working towards solutions to longer term issues.
Recent activities
The group has carried out:
- a 'Super Walkabout' with key agencies to identify areas for imrpovements
- clean up days involving young people, swap shops and held police and community meetings
They have also:
- improved links with the community – the Chief Executive met approximately 25 residents on the 'clean up' day
- reduced anti-social behaviour on the estate (according to a report by the local Neighbourhood Sergeant)
- identified environmental improvements; and
- removed rubbish and fly tipping
