Renting a Garage

Soha owns 1,500 garages in towns and villages throughout the South Oxfordshire District. You may be able to rent a garage near your home. Some areas are more popular than others and there are waiting lists for garages.

We deal with applications in the order that they are registered and in line with the following priorities:

Priorities for garage waiting list :

  • Priority 1 – Soha Housing tenants
  • Priority 2 – Soha Housing leaseholders
  • Priority 3 – Soha Housing tenants who want to have an extra garage
  • Priority 4 – The general public
( Tenants with rent arrears will not be offered a garage licence).

The terms for renting a garage include the following:
  • You must be over 18 years of age
  • The garage may only be used for the storage of a vehicle that is taxed and has a valid MOT
  • Payment of the garage licence fee must be made 4 weeks in advance, by Direct Debit on the first day of each month.
  • The garage must not be used for the storage of furniture, equipment or goods. You must not store any noxious, inflammable or explosive liquids or substances (including, but not limited to, petrol, diesel, paraffin or liquid petroleum gas)
  • The garage must not be used in connection with a business

If you wish to end your garage licence you must give 2 weeks' written notice, taking into account that  all garage licences end on a Sunday.  The garage must be left clean and clear of all items, and the keys handed in promptly. Failure to comply with these conditions will result in charges to you.
