Household pests such as mice, ants and cockroaches are a real nuisance. If your home is suffering from an infestation of these, or any pests, it is your responsibility to have them removed.

Pests inside your home

Under the terms of your tenancy or lease we are not responsible for the treatment of household pests that might be present in your home. This includes:

  • Mice and rats
  • Ants, fleas and cockroaches
  • Wasp nests
  • Slugs

Should you need the service of a pest control company, you can find local firms on the internet or in the Yellow Pages. Some local authorities may carry out pest control work – you will need to contact their environmental health officer to find out if they can assist.

We may carry out pest control work in the following circumstances:

  • In a home that is located in a block of flats, where we think that a problem will spread throughout the block if we do not carry out pest control
  • Where the infestation is caused by a failure to carry out repairs that are our responsibility, or by poor design
  • Where damage is being caused to the building
  • For those who are particularly vulnerable, such as a resident with a mental illness, who is incapable of handling the situation.

Pests in communal areas

We will deal with pests found in the communal areas of blocks of flats if they are causing a problem and/or damage. This includes lobbies, corridors, staircases, refuse enclosures, roof spaces, car parks and shared gardens. The types of pests we deal with are mice, rats, ants, cockroaches, pigeons, squirrels and wasp nests.

We will use a professional pest control company to carry out the work. The cost of pest control in communal areas will be included in the annual service charge that all residents pay.
