Decent Homes

Decent Homes Standard
In 2000 the Government said that all our homes must reach and ideally exceed a 'decent' standard. A decent home is a home that is warm, weatherproof and has reasonably modern facilities.

Every home must, therefore:
  • Be fit to live in - meet current legal minimum standards for housing
  • Be in a reasonable state of repair e.g. roof, windows, heating and electrics
  • Have reasonably modern facilities and services e.g. kitchen and bathroom
  • Be reasonably warm e.g. effective heating and/or insulation

Our homes must meet the Decent Home Standards by 2010. We aim to reach the standard by 2008.  Whilst we are committed to providing decent homes, we have set ourselves higher targets which exceed the Governments' Decent Home Standard.  We have produced a “Decent Homes Plus Standard” for our properties which is purposely more detailed than the Government’s targets and has been agreed with our tenants.
