Housing for Older People

Soha Housing - for older people

Soha owns 34 sheltered housing schemes, many with adjoining bungalows, in the towns and villages of South Oxfordshire and surrounding areas, in addition to flats and bungalows designated for older people.

We provide housing for people aged 60 or over, or above the age of 55 and needing some support, and we can also offer couples accomodation.

Although our main office is in Didcot we can visit tenants on request, particulally if you are an older person, but our Customer Services Advisors are able to answer most queries. You can reach them on 01235 515900 or 0800 014 15 45 (free from a landline).

Social rented homes

If you are older, independent, and enjoy living in the community our rented homes may be ideal for you. We have one and two bedroomed flats and bungalows in addtion to studio flats and family homes. Many of older residents are active in helping us design and plan services.

Sheltered housing

The aim of sheltered housing is to provide comfortable, convenient and secure accommodation, which supports an independent lifestyle. So you will have your own front door, but often a communal entrance for extra security and access to gardens and parking. Many schemes have a communal room and guest rooms available to residents’ families or friends for a small charge.

Our Scheme Managers run weekly scheme ‘surgeries’ and will visit by appointment anyone who needs help or advice.

Welfare support is provided by Community Voice our partner organisation, funded by Oxfordshire County Council, who will assess you for this regular visiting service, particularly if you need help with daily tasks or some personal care.

You can also request a portable lifeline alarm, to enable you reach someone 24 hours a day. If you have support needs this may be funded by Adult Social Care (Social Services). Soha also offer a low cost lifelime alarm.

Soha encourages social and recreational activities that support health and well being with theatre trips and coffee mornings or exercise classes!. But we also offer quiet rooms and privacy in our schemes. Our friendly Scheme Managers will make sure you have access to services you may need, but they will never enter your home without being invited, except in an emergency.

Extra Care

We have 40 flats for rent and sale in our brand new Extra Care Scheme in Windmill Place, Thame. Each flat has a living room, bedroom, fully fitted kitchen and a bathroom with a level-access shower.

The scheme is intended to help older people (55 and over) remain independent for as long as possible. It can accommodate people with low level of support needs, as well as those who have mobility or health problems that mean they need regular or long term care and support.

The scheme opens in January 2012, but we are accepting applications now. There is a show home available to see by appointment.

How to Apply

Please contact us at Soha to request an application form and a brochure on 01235 515900. We may be able answer any questions you may have at the same time. If you feel that you might need help with completing the form, please do let us know.

The application form will ask some questions about any care needs you may have, as we will arrange for a care needs assessment to be carried out by Oxfordshire Adult Care (social services) to support your application.
