What are Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs)?
An ABC is an informal agreement between a person responsible for anti-social behaviour and the Police. The perpetrator signs an agreement that they will stop causing nuisance. The Police may hold an interview after a few months to remind the person of the contract and to offer support.
If the agreement is kept, the Police will hold a final interview to feedback to the person. In this case, no more action is taken.
If the agreement is broken, the Police hold another interview to remind the person of their contract.
In all cases, the perpetrator is warned that breaking the ABC agreement may be used as evidence for an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO).
Breaking an agreement is also a breach of tenancy. In some cases, where the person is a Soha tenant, and all other steps have failed, breaking an agreement may lead to an eviction order.
