Moving to a more suitable home

Moving to a more suitable home.

Has your house or garden become too big to manage?

Or maybe your children have left home and you feel you don’t need so much space? Or perhaps your only bathroom is upstairs and getting up and down has become a bit more difficult?

Whatever the reason, we can help you move to something smaller or more suitable: a flat, a bungalow or maybe an Independent Living scheme. We have many different types of housing, so there’s plenty of choice if you do decide you want to move.

We might also be able to help with the costs of moving or give you practical support with the actual move.

What sort of home could I move to?

Some of our bungalows especially suit people who are mobile and enjoy gardening, walking to the shops and using local transport. They’re really popular and sometimes there’s a waiting list – so if you’re interested get in touch with Homechoice.

We also have flats in many different areas – so you could downsize to a smaller, more manageable home, reduce your running costs and cut down on the housework and maintenance.

Or maybe you want a bit more security and peace of mind. If so consider our other options for living independently here.

How do I move to a new home?

Available homes are advertised online at www.southoxfordshirehomechoice.org.uk– where you can browse through properties and choose a house or flat you might like to ‘bid’ for.

Bidding means expressing a preference. It doesn’t mean you’ll automatically get the property but it shows that you’re interested in it.

Bidding has to be done online with a computer, tablet or smartphone. If you don’t have a computer, or can’t make it to a local library to use theirs, someone else can bid for you – perhaps a family member or neighbour. We can also put in a bid for you – you’ll just need to fill in a form first.

What should I do next?
