Making everyday life easier
If you or someone you live with has a disability (or is seriously ill), we can help make everyday life easier by adapting your home or installing some simple aids.
Perhaps grab rails in the bath would help, or maybe lever taps or a ramp for your wheelchair? Or perhaps you need more major work done – such as a stair lift or a level access shower?
We classify disability adaptations into ‘minor’ adaptations (valued at less than £1500) and ‘major’ adaptations (valued over £1500).
- If you need a minor adaptation we’ll probably do this work ourselves, within four weeks of you contacting us
- If you think you need a major adaptation, you’ll need to be assessed by the council’s occupational therapy (OT) team. They will visit you at home and assess exactly what work is required. You can contact the OT team yourself, or we can make a referral on your behalf for a DFG grant to help cover the costs
If your home doesn’t suit your needs any more, it might be better to think about moving. Our newer homes often have better fittings and can be cheaper to heat.
If you’d like some information about your options or help with moving home, please get in touch.
